"A beach in the city! I can hardly contain my excitement on this one. Along with the birding opportunities with the proposed ecological restoration.”
“Being able to participate in more activities closer to home. Druid Hill Park has been a part of my life since birth- from parent walks, childhood and adult birthday parties, family reunions, playground visits, and so much more.”
“Keeping historic structures or materials to incorporate into future plans. Watershed and plant communities. All of the water wetlands and living shores elements.”
“The role of the lake and surrounding areas as a much-needed gathering space and civic center in that part of Baltimore. I love the idea of people being able to organize and swim and have fun and get to know one another at the park.”

“Community focused programming - like a Farmers Market. More bike rentals and community bike rides.”
“Civic events - events that help plan for the future of Baltimore and the state.”
“Festivals, pumpkin patch fall activities. Christmas lights. Perhaps wine and food festivals. Summer and fall plays for families and children. Family gatherings, hayrides, full/carriage rides for winter.”
“Outdoor dance lessons such as salsa, line dancing, etc., gardening events, programming highlighting talent from area high schools and colleges, outdoor builder events such as learning to build benches that’ll be used at the park or other local parks.”
“Seems like a good list. Events would be great, but if this buildout gets built I think myself and many others will be at Druid Lake all the time regardless of events. That's what I'm excited for more than any one type of event.”
What have we missed in our current plans for the transformation of Druid Lake?
“Connections to surrounding neighborhoods. I think access is going to be more important than programming. In particular pedestrian connections. We need fewer cars in the park so people can safely enjoy it.”
“A grand reopening celebration”
“Are there any plans for informational nature center-type buildings? That would be helpful because our city has lots of wildlife.”
Druid Lake Vision Plan - Public Outreach
Vision Plan - Community Engagement
Public participation has been central since the beginning. The 2021 Vision Plan included three major community meetings — both virtual and in-person — and collected over 300 surveys from residents. These sessions introduced design ideas, gathered feedback on programs and circulation, and helped identify community priorities.
DPW and Recreation & Parks have continued quarterly public updates through 2024 and 2025, sharing progress on both the Tanks Project and the Druid Lake Park design.

Meeting #1
April 14, 2021
Attendance: 157 attendees
Format: Microsoft Teams
Meeting Overview:
Community Engagement Meeting #1 introduced the design team, shared project goals, and presented site history and Park precedents. The meeting utilized breakout groups using virtual pinup boards, where participants shared memories, current use feedback, and ranked future programming ideas. These questions were also available in Community Survey #1. A total of 226 surveys were completed. All feedback from the boards and surveys was collected and synthesized to inform the project’s next steps.

June 3, 2021
Virtual: 103 attendees
In-person: 28 attendees

Meeting Overview:
Community Engagement Meeting #2, held virtually and in-person, introduced the Druid Lake Vision Plan, project principles, and three design frameworks. Attendees reviewed Meeting #1 feedback and completed Community Survey #2, ranking programming, features, and circulation, and sharing input on reestablishing lake facilities. At the in-person event, the design team presented boards, answered questions, and gathered additional feedback. A total of 125 surveys were completed, guiding the ongoing planning process with input from both meeting formats.
Meeting #3
November 20, 2021
Attendance: 43 attendees

Meeting Overview:
Community Engagement Meeting #3 allowed the design team to share the project timeline, guiding principles, and show how feedback from earlier meetings shaped programming, circulation, and design of the Druid Lake Vision Plan. The team also presented potential initial phases and highlighted the project’s multi-phased approach. Attendees were encouraged to complete a final survey on implementation priorities. The survey was open for two weeks, promoted online, and shared with all registered participants. A total of 84 surveys were completed.
